The Chosen One

Finalist in the 'Word Zone 2016' competition

Adventures aren’t single heroic stories but subdivisions of tragedies. Sam wasn’t an enthusiast for chores or dreary maths problems however he had a knack for adventure. He would spend long hours fantasising about the endless opportunities that adventure could bring.
That night, Sam was in his room doing his homework on the table as it had been a busy day at school It was that night, when the monotone jarred ceiling illuminated with a flicker. It was an unusual light. However as sleep overcame Sam he forgot all about this unusual incidence until that very next day when he saw it in the playground. He kept seeing a yellow light wherever he went, what could this mean? Haunted and creeped out, Sam sought his grandfather for help. He guided Sam that only such a light could be the light of the chosen one. The chosen one was enlightened and chosen to guide the supernatural world. The chosen one was at stake with a huge responsibility. The world was relying on Sam as he was the chosen one. His grandfather advised him to pack his bags and to embark on a perilous journey. The chosen one had to prove his worth by facing the menacing Elder Dragon. Excited, nervous and scared, Sam set out.
He had one mission, to find the Elder Dragon. This dragon was feared by many. It would take hundreds of little boys to cover the distance of the Elder Dragons. He had sharp razor like teeth that could slice you into a million pieces. He travelled to the east lands. It was like walking into a lion’s lair and there was no escape. The east land was a subject of horror and terror to many people. The thick canopy of the east lands covered all sunlight and happiness. Yet Sam ventured on to face his fears.
At last under a tree stood the Elder Dragon baring his teeth towards Sam’s direction. Sweat trickled down Sam’s spine. However, he remembered his purpose to why he was here, to defeat the Elder Dragon, to prove his worth. So Sam charged forward as adrenaline rushed through his body. The Elder Dragon, oblivious to the danger he faced, barely moved. Sam stabbed the dragon with a force so strong that it had shaken mountains. The Elder Dragon had underestimated Sam’s power. The dragon fell to the ground with a thud. Sam had won victory and nothing in the world could erase the radiant smile on Sam’s face. In the fading silhouette of the dragon, a rusty old key emerged. As Sam picked up the key, a realisation dawned upon him. This key was the key of the Elder. This key gave him supreme power. He was unstoppable with this key. This key would unlock the door of adventures. Sam had proved his worth to all that had doubted him. As Sam disappeared into the night, adventures trailed behind him waiting to be undone by Sam.
