When the sun had set, and the moon was lost,
The slightest noise had a deadly cost,
Nothing moved while the hour went,
That was when all were silent.
As all light from the sun receded,
An ambiguous figure proceeded,
And once the sun was out of sight,
The figure ruled for an hour of the night.
Talking was completely out of question,
Even movement was not recommended then,
Though the danger was not yet proved,
No one at all talked or moved.
And the sharp whistling of his isolated voice,
Left all else only one choice,
To obey and let him be the only being as he went,
And that was when all were silent.
