She was a curious little bud,
my oath was to protect her, fire or flood.
As she grew, she stole my heart
and from her, I could not part.
Strong and fearless I was now,
protecting my love, was my vow.
I stand all day with my sharp spear,
pointing ready for enemies near.
Day by day, her beauty grew, but of me, she had no clue.
Blossoming gracefully with a ruby red glow,
my courage and devotion, I tried to show.
As her petals, past me, gently fall,
a bitter sorrow engulfs my all.
People praise her beauty,
yet to me they show scorn.
Still, I am her protector, I am her thorn.
