Darkness Awaits

A great danger is coming, dark and slowly growing,
The days are dimming and shadows spreading.
Peaceful lands are safe no longer,
And bloody armies seek to conquer.
When the darkness swallows the world of men,
And the sun does not shine again.
The best and bravest shall splatter,
And the weakest will surely plunder.
Hear the patter of rain on shield,
And the pounding on a dying field.
A gathering of flowers never to bloom,
Only to hear the clashing resume.
Trees will burn, and marshes run red,
Rivers will churn, with the bodies of the dead.
The husband, the father, or the son,
never again to laugh, love, or run.
