A Country Of Refuge

The harsh wind lashes my face.
Kicked out of my country because of my race.
Now I'm alone on this boat of death,
Where I fear for my life as I take every breath.
The discrimination never ends.
I left behind all my family and friends
To go to a country free from hatred and war
Where danger isn't constantly knocking at my door.
Great landscapes, great people, a plethora of food,
And all the simple things that lighten my mood.
But this is only in my imagination.
This new country could be filled with devastation.
Because of the men who put a bullet in my head,
I can never go back to the country I fled.
