Mars, the Red Planet.
Smothered with a gargantuan, gas blanket,
Forever orbiting the scorching flaming sun.
Merely half the size of Earth,
It could’ve had life at birth.
Deep beyond the valleys,
There she keeps her tallies,
The years it takes for us to reach her;
The lonely, crimson planet.
Keeping contact with Saturn,
Daily, she follows her unusual pattern.
Darkness surrounds the scintillate sphere,
Meteors and asteroids swing very near.
She’s awaiting exploration, preparing sinister retaliation,
But secretly hoping that we will not forget,
For one day we will tame her – soon but not yet.
