A World Wasted

Newspaper clippings line the chipped floor;
evidence of a world searching for more.
There, crumpled in like a budded seed,
a small limbed girl, lusts to be freed.
As the Winter months fade,
her hair flutters in cascades
of beauty that will be crumpled and ignored
by high-nosed mortals on their screens, brains tired and bored.
Inside, she's hollowed out from the climb,
her soul scattered in wisps of time.
You won't hear her voice on the 6 o clock news
yet she's the epitome of life abused.
Day by day, she grows ever smaller
as the enemy buildings grow ever taller.
Cut down to provide life in her death:
the world evolves, but soon, there'll be nothing left.
