I fear genetics would go to waste,
When the public dislikes this science in haste.
What they see as playing gods,
Just started with Mendel and pea pods.
When organisms have genes chopped,
Then all sorts of problems could be stopped.
Animals could have disorders corrected
And plants could become pest protected,
But instead of finding the benefits clear,
Communities just grow more in fear
of human babies free from defects,
Among others doubts and unknown effects.
And so in the meddling of DNA,
With the use of enzymes or a laser ray;
To achieve perfection by any means,
Is it right to alter genes?
