The Ground Would Pound

His quest was hard, the search for gold was never easy
And yet he still prevailed!
But when he got to the fields, you could hear him yell “Jezey!”
There were police everywhere. They seemed to be bored
But when night came a knocking, everyone snored!
The police got up in the morning they were looking for gold everywhere!
But when they inspected the miners, all they found was hair!
“Show us your licence!” the policemen would shout
“And anyone that doesn’t have one, will soon be kicked out!”
But when the miner reached his goal, and for miles around
You could tell when he did, because the ground would pound.
For what he found, he named ‘Welcome Stranger’
It was hard to ignore; he knew he was in danger.
So he ran to his home, dragging the gold because it was a heavy one
He got to town, and had a quiet one.
And so it remains known to this day, that he was very rich
For his name was John Deason and he wasn’t a witch.
But still to this day, with people like Bill
We agree it’s one of our greatest finds, in the town of Sovereign Hill.
His father told him of the Eureka stockade, it was a big fight!
And although many people died, they fought to make things right.
