Finalist in the 'Horizon of Dreams 2018' competition
The rumble of the thunder the rattle of the rain
Lashing at the glass of the dappled window pane
The dull thud of leaves landing on the roof
As strong and persistent as a horse’s hoof
A ferocious wind calls and howls like a dog
Tearing through the trees and the thick grey fog
Trees seem to stagger as though they’re blind
Boom there’s thunder crash goes a power line
The drip of the dew drops sweeping into soil
Where abundant little saplings sprout with urge and toil
The squeal of the tree dwellers signalling the hail
They all seek refuge amongst the trees and shale
The chirping of the birds and the buzz of the bees
Through the sweet flowers and the tall oak trees
The sweet scent of the soil mixed with that of the rain
Another storm’s coming here we go again.
