Finalist in the 'Horizon of Dreams 2018' competition
While her body nestles into mine,
I watch our two hearts entwine, like vines.
Struck by her beauty, my body begins to numb,
In a bed made of silk, she clings onto my thumb.
She rests, safe within the shelter my admiration provides,
As I pray our two worlds will somehow collide.
Slowly, her body starts to transform,
A little caterpillar now being reborn.
Love blinds my eyes, as I feed on her splendour,
I cling onto her, my heart yearning for more.
However, fate is cruel, and has other plans,
And I’m forced to watch her fall, from my silver hands.
She breaks free from my grasp, tearing through my silk skin,
Sorrow floods my heart, as my hope wears thin.
As I, her cocoon, crumble away, my love for the butterfly will never decay.
