My mums are getting married
My whole body feels like joy, like all my favourite things rolled up together
Even better than chips
Being married makes us a real family
The piece of paper they made for themselves when they had their first wedding
Which wasn’t a wedding, wasn’t a real piece of paper signed by the government
Now it will be
There will be a lot of food and drink
I’m sad that the menu doesn’t have chips on it, but it does have soft drinks
I’m going to have Fanta, then ginger beer, and I’m allowed because I checked
I’m giving my mums the rings and doing the music and giving them away
Which is not like giving away a toy
But walking them down an aisle between all the chairs. It’s very important
I’m writing to give a speech as a present to my mums
I’m nervous about doing that because all those people. Will. Be. Looking. At. Me
I hope they have lots of happy tears in their eyes so that they really can’t see me
