Excellence Award in the 'Horizon of Dreams 2018' competition
This evening, for no reason,
Or lack of judgement from the cooling season,
I felt compelled to open the window of my room
And witness the worn drive way and lamp-lit street and sleeping neighbourhood.
I leaned out into the silhouette of the stooping tree
The pool of late moonlight
Moulded just across my chapped face.
The gum leaves mirroring the desolate air
Down the block a growling and scratching
Possums are at it again.
Without thinking
Head against the cool bricks
I said in a whisper "I love you world."
Perching on my pane.
