Yesterday It Rained

Yesterday it rained, although to me at least, it seemed more like hail
A situation, no matter what it may be, is only ever as dramatic as the event before it
That’s why after a bright, sunny day, a small drizzle can often seem like a thunderstorm
With lightning flashing, shaking the ground, shaking me to my very core
Even though in reality, it’s only a small droplet of rain, barely visible in the dim, new, morning light
Yesterday it rained, but today was warm, today was hot, today was boiling
It was the kind of day that makes your skin crawl with sweat and your cheeks flush with effort
The kind of day that makes you want to lie down on the ground and yell
“I give up! Just, let the heat take me”
But of course it wasn’t like that, no, it was barely warm at all but, yesterday it rained
So today it was warm
Yesterday it rained, silent rain, lonely rain
Nothing to be heard but the echo of helpless, meaningless thoughts
Moving slowly through my mind, almost painfully so
That’s why the warm, ambient, beautiful sounds of today, were so inviting,
Because yesterday it rained, it rained so today could be warmer
