Excellence Award in the 'Horizon of Dreams 2018' competition
It has been nine days since you left
As you did, you committed a minor theft.
You stole something from me, my heart
And I must admit it was an important part.
I've missed you terribly throughout the week
Missed your voice, the way you speak.
The house seems a little darker, emptier too
My life is leached of colour without you.
What am I talking about! My heart wasn't kidnapped,
I gave the whole thing to you and had it gift-wrapped.
Through little acts of love, you reminded me each day
Why you deserved the heart I gave away.
You have protected it like a fearsome guard,
This is why your absence feels so hard.
So when I finally see you I want you to know
That I love you more than I could ever show.
