3rd in the 'Horizon of Dreams 2018' competition
I lie in a tiny compartment, waiting for my turn,
The zip starts to open and my ink starts to churn,
A hand reaches down and picks my navy friend,
I try to be happy, but I just can't pretend.
Two minutes later and my friend is thrust back in,
The hand picks me out and my shining will begin!
I sail over a sea of pristine perfect white,
I fill it with sunshine, ducks and daffodils delight.
Lemons, sunflowers, bananas, canary birds and cheese,
Daisies, egg yolks, dandelions, buttered corn and bees,
My brick road adventure day has finally begun,
But that's it! Too soon! My cap is on! My spotlight time is done!
But I know that I served my handy master well,
One day I'll have another chance to use my creation spell.
I am a little artist's yellow felt-tipped pen,
And I know she'll let me journey over paper once again.
