She talks of days that came and went; of books and stories – letters sent:
a life of poems that comes and goes; as ribbons, buttons, fabric bows.
She weaves and sews, and knits, crochet; the edges of her thoughts away.
As in her mind lie weightless smiles; that tell her heart has trekked a mile.
It can be seen, among her eyes - beneath those pointless, shallow lies;
as she attempts to lock away; the secrets of her life façade.
Another square she lays aside; along with sparks of hapless pride -
a portion of her own completeness; a quilt of sorrow, life's a witness.
With greying eyes and weary soul; that show her path has taken toll -
the share of horror, fear, and grief; of love and trust – a faux belief.
In happiness and wondering thought; now trapped within a heart that’s fraught –
with fragile laughs and cautious joy; but nothing of which can destroy,
for all that’s there has shattered – tore; the shards of love forevermore.
Yet still she stitches squares apart – to each repair her patchwork heart.
