Excellence Award in the 'Write Along 2018' competition

A bustling town, going about its normal day,
Working together with the land that gives life.
A community located on a coastal plain,
Farmers, fishermen, fighting men all the same.
A sudden rumble, ground shake and birds take flight.
Huge clouds of dark ash puff into the sky.
Hiding the sun and turning day into night,
The wrath of a monster responding to their sins.
Dread, dismay, disorder descend on this place,
Spreading like a wild fire across a windy plain.
The monster that gave life steals it with pace.
The volcanos ash, searing heat, scalding skin away.
All hopeful to escape an unfortunate end,
Souls lost in darkness could not be helped.
The poor individuals petrified in time,
their fate sealed in the pages of history.
