Excellence Award in the 'Write Along 2018' competition
Water overflowing increasing at its knees,
the ozone layer depleting as thin as paper,
mighty ice now melting machines,
pollution heating the souls of the earth.
The three shades of turquoise water I use to lie beneath
The filth, the germs, the bacteria I see,
Slowly seeking victory,
Crushing their hearts spreading vicious disease.
What was once vibrant colours with roaming creatures,
Is now over flooding water with no flora or fauna at sight,
shellfish that rove now slowly dying,
Hearing extinction calling their name.
Careless, selfish, reckless beings,
fossil fuels, for what electricity?
killing innocent lives for personal benefit,
What do we succeed?
