Excellence Award in the 'Write Along 2018' competition
You wore a mask to hide your imperfections
You say you’re fine but you still have questions
You look in the mirror and see your reflection
Why did you change without any hesitation?
Stepping out into a world filled with negativity,
You hide your face because of your insecurities
You wonder why you pretend to be happy
Then you discover the answer, it wasn’t just serendipity.
The euphoria I’ve always wanted
Appeared in my life, that was once haunted
I know the feeling of being unwanted
I had shed tears from being taunted.
Now I’m happy, face filled with glee
I’ve learned to be young, wild and free
I stared at the mirror then smiled widely
My singularity is why I should love me
