Excellence Award in the 'Write Along 2018' competition
Tears roll down the face of my mother and I,
as we stand in the remembrance of my father.
Brave soldiers hiding behind barricades,
behind soft mud.
In the field of poppies
there is only one that has not been touched.
Bang!
As one more man is shot, the last red poppy is gone.
Blood, sweat and tears, all for our country
for our precious land.
The death of millions to fight for our freedom
and never to see their families again.
As we stand in the honour of this day
we hear the Last Post and a moment of silence.
A chapter of a life closes.
We will remember them. Lest we forget.
