Butterfly

3rd in the 'Calling All Poets 2007' competition

She stared sullenly into the incomplete interior,
And caught no familiar faces.
She sobbed silently beside the barren bed,
But felt no tender touches.
Outside the window the moon shone,
The lilies swayed and the ravens played.
From the open air a butterfly emerged,
Dancing into the night with his pigment white.
On her hand he landed.
She sang soothingly with lucid longing,
And allowed herself to mingle within her myriad memories of the past.
Sinking with solace into the bed as he heaved himself into the night sky,
She finally permitted her tears to tumble out.
She stared into the dark with swollen eyes,
Slowly, a smile spread its way across her face.
