Excellence Award in the 'Write Along 2018' competition
Cleanse the wide landscapes with flakes of soft white
Hide the sun, lengthen the hours of the moon
Fade out the green hue, block all the warm light
Make all feel the bitter chill that you groom
Relieve the trees of their fallen red leaves
For in the cycle you are the new start
Settle your snowflakes in all cavities
Lodge icicles in mother nature’s heart
Your passage hurts those who wish your demise
Men who dare to challenge your able strength
So then I will wait till Spring does arise
There is sure to be an end to your length
Winter won’t you bring him who I long for
For when he is far I cannot adore
