Buath Gurru

Excellence Award in the 'Write Along 2018' competition

In Mangowak it’s flowering time
And merri has begun to shine.
Every day we swim in the warri
Where we all find a sense of mok-borri.
Wathaurong people light their cooking fire
The smell of bush tucker rises higher and higher.
The micro bats have come to stay
As unlucky insects come out to play.
No matter if there’s a merri shower
The pretty green bird still builds his bower.
Buath gurru is my favourite time
Because that’s the land’s time to shine.
Wadda Wurrung Language (local indigenous language)
Buath gurru - flowering time; Mangowak - Aireys Inlet; Merri - sun; Warri - sea; Mok–borri - peace
