Excellence Award in the 'Write Along 2018' competition
Seated upright in a wooden chair,
All alone in your secret lair,
Your head as empty as the paper in front of you; with nothing to bear,
As you are on the verge of pulling out your hair.
Then you step out for a stroll, peek into a deserted lane,
To feel darkness engulf you, and know there’s nothing to gain,
But the awfully strong sense of pain,
And as you flick on your torch, the sight almost makes you insane.
Tarred ground decorated with litter,
With grimy blankets lining the alley’s edge,
Filthy, begging hands welcome a man so bitter,
And he leaves them unnoticed, for you to feel within, rising rage,
Then you turn away, feeling pity for the souls with barely a minor wage,
And before you know it you’re scribbling the final lines of your now not so empty page.
