A Year Without Christmas

This story is translated from the ancient elf language.

Christmas Eve, the best day after Christmas of course. Imagine if you not only missed Christmas Eve, but you missed Christmas as well. This is the story of how Santa himself almost missed Christmas. It may seem very hard to believe or even think of, but it’s true, I was there.
It all started on the 5 of February 2017,

I had been an elf for 2 years now and was still getting used to the rush of getting presents ready for all children of the world. The presents are made all year round and is a very tiring job. Santa wasn’t very strict but he was strict only on the deadline when the presents were to be made. We had a problem; Santa went missing days before Christmas! If we didn’t find Santa tomorrow, Christmas was doomed!

“Have you seen Santa?” many elves asked with such worry in their eyes.
No-one had seen Santa for a long time and we were running behind schedule. So, I had an idea.

“Guys I have an idea” I yelled out to all the other elves
“What is it”
“ some of us go looking for Santa, while the others go and talk to the elders to stop time for just a few hours.”
“YEAH!!!”

Everyone loved the idea.

I decided to take some of the younger elves with me, so the older elves could go and speak to the elders. We made our way out of the north pole, using the polar express. I asked the conductor to take us to the south pole. We only asked him to go there because our rivals, the south pole, never liked Santa for some reason, and we were about to find out what that reason was.

On our way down to the north pole, we went past many countries that I have never heard of, countries such as ‘Australia’? And ‘New Zealand’? I have never heard of those before, then again I have never left the north pole. This was really exciting for me because I was never allowed to leave the area of the village because apparently, I was “Clumsy” and “naive” whatever they mean. Does that mean that I can’t defend myself because I am a master of Elfkwondo. Anyway, that doesn’t matter. We were almost there and the conductor gave us a five-minute warning and gave us a little ‘head’s up’. He said,

“Beware of the creatures that live below the rest of the world,” He started, staring at all of us one by one, “they do not like your kind and will do anything to get rid of them.” what did he mean by our kind? And will do anything to get rid of us?

“Well have fun, we are just around the corner”
You could clearly see in the eyes of all of the other, much younger elves, that they were petrified by those words. Finally, the train stopped we’re here.
