Your light auburn hair shines in the moonlight,
For many a years I had pictured this night,
Just you and I under star-covered skies,
Unable able to hear the sound of distant cries.
Held silently in your arms I looked into your sapphire eyes reflecting the moon,
But then a familiar sound echoed in the night sky ‘incoming’ screamed from the platoon,
It is then you left me with a soft kiss of goodnight
And a gentle whisper in my ear that everything would be alright,
All through the night the sounds of war,
Could be heard in the distance coming from the cold dark moor,
A knock at the door brings two men wearing olive coloured suits,
A hand full of medals and freshly polished boots.
I don’t hear what they say, I just fall to the floor,
Because I knew I had just lost the man I adore
The man of Auburn hair and Sapphire eyes
That held me that night...under starlit skies.
