3rd in the 'Just Keep Writing 2019' competition
He wanders through the busy streets with sadness drizzling on him,
Trying to save face and keep pace with those singing a happy hymn,
But the darkness surrounds and infests his melody,
He feels excluded and misunderstood, all he needs is somebody.
When he closes his eyes all he sees are his mistakes,
He can’t articulate what stimulates his self-doubt,
If only someone could reach in and pull him from his shame,
If only they could say the words he desperately needed to hear,
“You are not a monster.”
The power that comes with being a master,
Too much to bear for someone unstuck from reality.
A thinly veiled deception of grandeur,
Protecting himself from the grand view others have of him.
If only they could stop thinking he is such a perfect being
And finally understand what they are truly seeing.
