Another Perspective

You kick desperately at the ground as you fall, swept underneath,
To serve as a platform for others.
Soon you are lying
On the ground,
Alone.
You can hear death coming,
A roar that hurts your ears
You kick at the ground futilely, trying to get away,
But the sickness that made your own child leave you,
Has drained you, keeping you on the ground
A ground shaking thud
And then death is standing over you, weapon ready.
And you feel the metal, pierce your throat as the farmer leans over you.
He stands and walks,
Away from the body of the ewe.
Gets in his ute and drives away.
