I wonder if going to a new country to find a fortune is worth it
I hear the hardships from my neighbours whose families have gone to the mine fields
I see the sadness of these families who are living far from their sons and daughters
I want to go to mine but I don’t want to leave my family behind
I am a miner from 1851
I pretend I am going to the mine with my family
I worry would I ever get the chance to see my family again
I touch their faces one last time before I leave
I cry in prayer that God will safely assist me on this journey
I am a miner from 1851
I understand that my family is in a financial crisis and we need money to survive
I say my motto out loud and clear “I Xin Shong will do anything to keep my family happy”
I dream of all the treasures I would find in this mine in a new land
I try to comfort my family to stay strong
I hope that I would join with my family on a new land
I am a miner from 1851
