Can You Hear Them?

Can you hear them as they whisper through the walls?
They sound so calm and near, yet so far and their voices sound so distant.
So comforting, yet they send shivers down my spine like a cool breeze gently touching my skin.
Their shadows fill the room creating only what was bright to now disappear into their darkness
They follow me around waiting for the right time to consume all my thoughts
Their darkness is like a black hole that seems to be never-ending
The darkest, deepest place to travel to and I have to travel there alone
Making me feel numb and frozen on the inside, yet I’m dimly glowing like a dying gem
Yet at the end of that hole, there is a glimmer of light, hope, freedom
The fresh air enters my lungs and proceeds to spread throughout the rest of the body
The weight that once dragged me down and been lifted off, freeing me
For once a smile appeared across, for once consuming my mind with only happy thoughts
That deep place shall never revisit me, I now know my strengths and my weaknesses
And now, can you hear them? I can’t
