On the watch ticks
A man has fallen but on his watch ticks
Stuck serving absent eyes, it labours past his demise.
On the watch ticks
It purposes finally fulfilled, upon its owner being killed
On the watch ticks
Slowly falling behind on what it measures, it’ll no longer warn of upcoming pleasures.
On the watch ticks
Its beats mirror a now gone pulse, Screaming a time, once true, now false.
On the watch ticks
In trying to tell what was what is, yet only tells what is what was.
On the watch ticks
So, it’s passed to me by mournful hands
From he who has fallen to he who stands
With a simple reference and a twist of my finger
In the past it shall no longer linger
On my watch ticks
