The trees wave at an azure sublime
Suspended above mournful rain.
Fire spits from the hands of the Man
still – still and still – the grass stands taller
Five-kilometre-per-hour winds
Carried as the plague is carried.
By the light of day or drape of night,
The flowers fall not to the banshees.
The heart of the forest and valleys and stones
Cradled in the cage of a sky gone grey.
cracks of dawn and a brighter tomorrow
shine white; the bright promise of a child.
Under the foliage veins and oaken skin,
away from the eyes of the hungry Man,
the heart of the heart lets out a cry
and it rings in my ears alone.
