Excellence Award in the 'Inspired 2019' competition
Planes spill into skies flush with distant lands
Mirrors bright as eyes wink to children on the sands
Heads tall, hands unwrapped, they wave and flail
With needles blunt, and thread shorter than any kite tail
Yet listen they do to the water and the way it speaks
Through the world; their hollow beaches and peaks
So plunge they do like tigers into the waves
And slash with swords true at the stormy knaves
All the while hours, like marbles, roll by
And to ribbons of tireless blue their eyes fly
Caressed and kicked by that indigo tryst
Known only to those who at the waters of the crocodile wished
Until the sun and wind them pillars make, thunder and whales reeds
Till the sky does raise their deeds
To those mirrors far away, in memory
Of those who answered the echoes of destiny!
