The Fright At Night

3rd in the 'Calling All Poets 2007' competition

Running away from nothing,
I know it is not there.
But although you cannot see it,
You know it's everywhere.
You hear its heavy panting,
You turn and start to sprint.
You know it's after you,
For you see its big footprint.
You think you hear a roar,
A scary, frightening sound.
You start running harder,
Then fall to the ground.
You begin to get worried, then start to panic.
You hide behind a log, feeling very frantic.
You hope it gives up, you hope that you survive.
You know that it will find you, Dead or Alive!
