Excellence Award in the 'The Inside Story 2020' competition
I once was a pure idol,
Untainted and unattainable.
Then I was soiled by humanity and regarded as a trophy.
I pride myself on my immortality.
All that talk about gods – Can’t they see?
All who view me have realised awe,
My frigid beauty, untouchable and inspiration
Although for all I am, mortals think that I will be ignored,
Since all their advancement, they no longer hold time for natures gifts.
I was praised for my heavenliness,
The gods alone could truly rule me,
One day I will rule the world again.
I am the epitome of the world,
I am Mother Nature imbued into a message of strength,
I shall not be outlasted.
I am Mount Everest.
