A Poem Of Famine And Frost

Excellence Award in the 'The Inside Story 2020' competition

The Winter is a beast with frosty teeth,
Who snaps at our fingers, toes, and feet,
It starves the creatures, birds, and foe,
And smothers crops in a blanket of snow,
With an icy breath so bitter and cold,
It snuffs the flames of crimson gold,

But in this state of famine and fast,
Comes a world of opaque glass,
Dancing flakes of crystal light,
Twigs encased in tears of blight,
The beauty of a lover’s harp,
Akin to roses with thorns so sharp,

The winter blooms with petals of time,
A masterpiece of reaper and rime.
