Current Pleasures

I’m only a child
A child that clings to your leg when there is no shadow to cling to
A child that tells you she loves you
These current joys, fading tapes in my mind
I cling to your leg in fear,
Like something is to be lost, and to slowly fade
Like shadows are to be engulfed in the rising night
Children fear the dark
Loving you in flower crowns and in purple coats
My current joys, they flicker
Swallow me in violet skies and silences
In violent waves where I cling like a child in the sea to warm pillars
I fear the dark
I want a quiet place to rest, far from the rising tide,
A place I won’t scramble for a shadow that is fast becoming a lonely night
