Finalist in the 'The Write Note 2021' competition
Emaciated silhouettes yearning for hope, Frost-stricken; fear-clouded.
Their ragged limbs and desperation, Swirled in the abyss of stolen light.
Jagged shards of turpitude, Littered the wintry sky,
Clouding desolate stars; Twinkling eyes dwindling.
Eerie cries pierce the grave, Fear embedded in their souls
The blade’s malicious intent, Slicing earthly morals.
Ravenous animals greedily stole; their hearts, their lives, their fight.
Branded by race; herded like cattle, Reluctantly traipsing to their slaughter,
Succumbing to the predators’ wrath.
Gassed futures; plagued hearts, Grief-stricken souls united.
Injustice igniting determined fighting, Coalesced infernos ablaze.
But...as the blaze grew weary A fleeting effulgence of a glowing ember,
Its demise marked merely.
The fragmented remnant stars, Concealed by a veil of fog,
Hope reliant; force defiant, The brightest stars prevail.
