Rain Really Makes Me Wonder

Tall trees, thin leaves. They sway peacefully along.
The tin roofs talk, they shout to the furious thunder.
Why do we not move? We stay on Earth strong.
Rain really makes me wonder.
At the kitchen bench I sit, typing away on my laptop,
Doing homework ever so easy I would never need to ponder.
“Keep going,” the lightning mumbles, even though I don’t want to,
But I still force my fingers to type. Rain really makes me wonder.
I could go to sleep, I think, but the storm is still awake,
And when the rain clouds roll over to rest, I keep wanting to squander.
I lay my head down onto my pillow, looking at my plain white wall.
“Just fall asleep,” the wind whispers. Rain really makes me wonder.
Pricks of light reach through my window.
I question, where did the once heavy rain go?
The lightning was now sunlight and there was no longer thunder.
Clouds cruise over the elevated hills, giving way to the radiating sun.
All of a sudden it disappeared. Rain really makes me wonder.
