The Magic Of Words

Pages of stories and writings flitter in the bitter Autumn wind.
Rows upon rows of books meet my eyes.
Whenever I am in strife, and I just want to leave this life, I’ll open a book
as the fireplace cackles, and the words wrap their way around me,
I’ll block out this world and escape this place.
I’ll do magical things, I’ll soar through the sky,
I’ll fight knights and bellowing dragons
And then I’ll save damsels in distress.
But I’ll realise that all good adventures tend to come to an end,
Just as I comprehend that, this adventure comes to an end too.
As I return to my armchair, the fireplace still cackling,
I slip back into reality, feeling as if I’ve just travelled many miles
though I haven’t moved an inch.
I wonder, how could words on a page create a thousand worlds?
But then I’ll smile, because I know, we can all create worlds,
if only we can find the power to unlock them all.
