The rise and clutching swell of reckless love
Can drown as soon as lull one into sleep
The cresting waves, relentless in assault,
Will softly drag the careless to the deep
Affection devastates as it delights:
The water of the womb is not contrary
To roaring rips of ruthless summer nights
So why are two extremes so hard to marry?
Temptation is to stay upon the shore
And always dread the swash and smooth retreat
Protect the heart but leave it wanting more
For fear of grieving love’s concluding beat
But water makes the heart the blood does drive
So let the waters drown, and then revive
