What is true darkness, that which makes one chase it away with light?
For it is where both the stars and monsters lurk, both the good and evil
It is infinite, yet the dawn and dusk of all, of right and wrong and life
Is it, haply, nought, a word to describe a nothingness we don’t understand?
Or everything, where dreams are born and wishes wait and time dwells?
What secrets are harboured inside those fathomless shadows of night?
Is the darkness lonely, when we flee to the light for consolation?
Is it saddened, knowing that all we yearn for is sight, and to see,
But that the dark can only be seen without light?
It is everywhere, yet how often do we stare into those depths of blackest ink,
Not wishing, with the tiniest ounce of our being, for light?
The darkness seeks comfort, yet we run away, close our eyes, hide
So I wonder,
What does it want us to know?
Or, maybe, the darkness wants to know,
Why do we run from it?
