A Bird's Eye View Of Lockdown

2nd in the 'Play On Words 2021' competition

Circling high above, the bird saw its nest.
A jumble of sticks on a flimsy branch.
Between apartments, highways and the tracks,
With three little chicks in their bird-made ranch.

One day the bird woke very late,
No footsteps, trains or sounds of cars.
Humans grounded in homes await,
While animals roam near to far.

Swooping down to the empty café,
No coffee cups or crumbs on the tray.
The bird flying off in slight dismay,
It'll have to find grub the previous way.

Landing carefree on the apartment lawn,
It dug for worms then looked around at the
Windows with faces pressed as if to say
I really wish I were a bird today…
