You reckless fire deity
Churning through the undergrowth
Of trees and grass, eating both
To fuel insatiable hunger
For fresh shoots, and everything younger
Than the last time you awoke with thunder
Lightning lit thirsty grass on fire
Igniting an infernal desire
To spring and duck amongst the trees
Of eucalyptus , increasing degrees
Of desperation to avoid
The solo dance of love devoid
So tell me, fire deity
Why you swirl in gaiety
Performing without a reason
The deadly dance of bushfire season
