Excellence Award in the 'National Treasures 2022' competition

I lie in bed at night and dream of my tomorrow
endless possibilities are waiting within my reach
The darkness settles slowly, a hue of pink and gold
my mind wanders to the place I’ll be, when I get old.
The stars shine through the window like hope burning into my soul
to rise above the coldness, the words that hurt my heart
Even though I may struggle, I will continue to give my all
and reach and strive higher, you will never see me fall.
Life is like a windy road full of potholes, turns and twists
sections may be smooth and happy, then distractions fill your brain
times will not be perfect, and you need to really try
you will be frustrated and deflated and maybe even cry.
That is when you don’t give up, it’s when you remember you are loved
and that someone believes in you and knows you will go far
and the wishes you are wishing
are being heard by that special star.
