People are sunflowers, always looking for that light
And when we can’t find it, we look within one another
Kept in a vase, made to look all pretty
Waiting for the sun to peak, glimmering through the blinds
It’s blinding but not always expected, staring out windows on rainy days, it is hard to find the sun
Just next to us we find, the synthetic rays that can only shine for too long
Where’s the sun? I can feel your light
Where am I meant to be looking? Turn around, turn around
This is why we sing, why we say, you, you are my sunshine
I compare you to the very thing my world runs around
I compare you to the very thing I stare at through windows
I compare you to the very essence of what I cannot live without
Can you see it? Can you see it?
Can you see the sun dripping down into the earth’s core?
Feeding the roots of our sunflower mentality, we look for the sun and I cannot find it
You become my sun
