What is the one thing that has a million acquaintances,
and therefore, a million friends?
What fills your hands with gold, then bronze the next,
what waits with you as you line up for gelato in front of
the fish and chips booth a block away,
what stumbles into your sandles and wedges between your toes,
stubborn like the wave which returns to
kiss the shore, refuses to part,
what bows reverently beneath your feet, and follows every footstep in anticipation?
What moulds itself directly in your image, remembering everything and forgetting nothing…
Need I say more?
I’m sure you’ve met before.
