Ice-cream, Cricket, Fireworks!

A repetitive chime rang through my ears, the ice-cream truck was here.
Now that the holidays had come for all, it was time for cheer,
The truck went down the winding road delivering frozen goods.
All the while I was on my couch watching cricket with the neighborhood.
The barbeque sizzled and cooked the sausages,
my neck bare and burnt.
My friends were sending me messages,
of their holidays and what they'd learnt!
A million colours filled the sky and smoke drew into my eyes,
Fireworks cackled and boomed in the night, dazzling against the stars.
People were shouting and people were laughing, and I think I heard a few lies,
"5, 4, 3, 2, 1, happy new year!" Could be heard from Mars.
