Stage Fright

My class bolted into the assembly
And patiently waited for it to start.
“Morning everyone! This assembly,
We’ll start off with giving awards from this chart.”

I dreaded that my name wouldn’t be said,
And glared at the luminous awards.
“Grace, Ann and Jess, how bravely they have led,
So come forward to receive a reward!”

As I strolled to the stage, I slipped on a page.
Shaking like a leaf, I fell to the ground.
All eyes on me, I felt trapped in a cage.
My happiness couldn’t be found.

So I stood back on my feet,
Making sure to be neat.
As exuberant as a goat,
After all, the reward was a boat!
